Elevator Pitch | Internet Marketing | Home Based Business
Sales has always been an important part of any business model. Whether you’re in retail, direct sales, wholesale, or service… you NEED to know how to sell. And the most important part of the sales process is the classic Elevator Pitch.
Before the internet came around, people did their selling the old fashioned way. Made calls, set up appointments, made sales presentations & closed. A small business owner would have to do a LOT of the selling towards the beginning of his business life… and if he saves up some of his hard earned money, then he could go hire a sales person to do the selling for him… he then would focus on growth and expansion of the business.
Thankfully, with the power of the internet anyone can start a business from home and with very LITTLE capital investment start a website that will serve as their very own sales person. This is why the home based business phylosophy is such an attractive thing to a LOT of people.
But here is where the complication comes in. As simple & easy as it sounds, you need to know what you’re doing to sell online. You need to have a good enough understanding of the sales process and more importantly the sales mentality.
One of the most popular sales concepts is the Elevator Pitch.
An Elevator Pitch is simply a one line statement (preferably short enough to be used in an elevator ride) designed to capture the interest of a QUALIFIED prospect. Here’s why I emphasized on the word qualified. Sales is NOT a game of convincing people to buy from you. Sales is all about finding people who are already, somewhat interested in what you’re offering and you LEAD them through the right steps that they need to take to buy from you.
Now these steps include getting their attention, making a powerful presentation, handling questions, and closing.
Which one do you think is the hardest step in that process?
If you thought closing, unfortunately you’re wrong. Handling questions (objections) isn’t really it either. And it’s pretty easy to design a powerful sales presentation.
The hardest part about the sales process is FINDING QUALIFIED PROSPECTS. If you had a qualified prospect you wouldn’t need to “hard sell” them… especially if you have a product that “sells itself”.
That’s why the Elevator Pitch concept is so important. If you understand how to design an Elevator Pitch that can grab the attention of your prosect & entice them to want more information from you, then you’ve won half the battle right there.
But don’t freak out… an Elevator Pitch is super easy to design. Much easier than you’re thinking right now.
And you’re probably wondering why I keep mentioning Elevator Pitch if we’re supposed to be talking about Internet Marketing & Home Based Businesses.
And I’m about to tell you.
The Elevator Pitch equivelant in Internet Marketing is the headline of your website. If you understand how to create a powerful Elevator Pitch then you’ll have no problems writing a great headline for your website.
This video gives you the full breakdown. Let me know what you think.

If you’ve ever done any type of selling or been around a sales environment, you’ve probably heard of the Elevator Pitch concept. Simply put, an Elevator Pitch is a quick, one-line pitch that will describe exactly what you do & what the benefits are to the prospect.
In the direct sales world, it is said that the best Elevator Pitch is something that you can put on the back of your business card.
Now, let’s apply that same exact concept to the world of online marketing.
First things first… online marketing is just another form of selling. So you need to have a clear understanding of the fundamentals of the sales process if you want to sell online. My recommendation would be to study up on the some of the greater salesmen that have existed in our time. People like Tom Hopkins, Blair Singer, Zig Ziglar & many others.
When you study and understand how to sell to a person that’s sitting in front of you, you won’t have a problem selling online. The principals are the same… you’re just delivering your sales message through a different medium.
The most important idea in sales is: you need to talk about the BENEFITS that your prospect will receive as a part of doing business with you.
The benefits that you talk about MUST be important in the eyes of the prospect… not yours. What you may consider to be important about your product or service may not have ANY importance to your prospect… so do your market research to find out what are the main benefits that your prospects are looking for.
Once you’ve figured out what the main benefits are that your prospects are looking for, you can then begin to craft your Elevator Pitch.
But if you’re not in direct sales and you’re trying to get your website off the ground, you can simply apply the above concept to your headline. If you ask any online marketer what is the most important part of a sales page, they’ll all tell you the same thing… the headline.
So using the Elevator Pitch concept can work for your online marketing efforts as well.
Note: The purpose of the Elevator Pitch is NOT to sell something. (Read that again) The purpose of this kind of pitch is to entice your prospect to continue speaking with you and hopefully set up an appointment… and the appointment is where you do the actual selling.
This is exactly the same with your headline. The purpose of your headline is NOT to sell your product or service – although sometimes, if you have a really qualified prospect reading your pitch, they’ll most likely scroll to the bottom of the page and just buy what you’re selling.
But most often times than not, people will NOT buy from you after just reading your headline. If you’ve written a great headline, however, they’ll definitely want to read more about what you’re offering. And as long as you do a good job of leading the prospect throughout your sales message, they’ll continue to read until they get to the bottom of the page.
This concept can also be applied to video & audio presentations. The beginning of your audio or video recording will be the same as if you were writing a sales letter. The first few words that come out of your mouth HAVE TO be about the benefits that your audience will receive by watching or listening to you.
I talk a lot more about this subject in my Money Making Game Plan home study course. There’s a whole session that’s dedicated to copy-writing and the online sales process. You’ll also learn about 5 of the most profitable business models that exist in modern society and how to go about implementing each one of them.
