How To Save Time: Getting The Phone Operator To Co-Operate
Manage Time | Save Time | Power Of Influence
As a home based business owner, your time is extremely valuable. Not only do you have to deal with the day-to-day’s of your operation, but you also have to deal with unnecessary & daunting tasks like staying on hold for 45 minutes to talk to a phone operator that seems to hate the world.
(This doesn’t apply to you if you have a personal assistant that does all this stuff for you… but if you’re running a small business and you don’t have a personal assistant, then you’ll want to read the rest of this article & watch the video above)
If you’ve EVER tried to call a major company for customer service, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
But when I call any operator – doesn’t matter if it’s a government service or my internet company – I always get the person on the other end to go completely out of their way to help me out. It’s really easy to do and I’m about to show you.
Now here’s the thing… when you call to speak to customer service, technical support, etc. you really can’t do much about the wait time. That’s a given for all of us. But when you finally get on the line with somebody, you cannot afford to piss that person off more than they already are.
Chances are that they talked to several very rude customers right before you called and all that anger & frustration is just stuck inside them and they’re waiting for the first chance to let it out. So if you want them to help you, your best bet ISN’T to get loud, angry & start yelling at them… it’s not going to help the situation.
What you CAN do, however, is the strategy that works for me more than 90% of the time… and that’s to be NICE to the phone operator.
What?! Be nice?! I don’t see how that’s going to work.
Let me explain.
What we tend to forget almost all the time is the fact that the person on the other end of the line is in fact, a human being. Contrary to popular belief, they DO have feelings & emotions and they DO have a mind of their own. We just don’t really notice it because they’re constantly reading from some sort of script that they’ve been taught. But just because they sound robotic, doesn’t mean they are a robot.
So keep this in mind whenever you’re talking to any kind of phone operator. It’s a small yet powerful mindset to have.
So what are you supposed to do? How do you get the operator to go completely out of their way and do everything in their power to get you what you want?
Easy… politely ask for it.
I even take it a step further and BEFORE I even mention what my problem is, I make it a point to ask the operator how their day is going and such. I take about 30 seconds to a minute to completely focus on THEM. And I don’t do it just because I want to trick them into helping me… I do it because I genuinely care for the person on the other line.
Now… when you actually care for the other person, they notice it automatically. They can tell just from the tone of your voice that you care for them… so by nature, they “return the favor”.
It’s amazing how easy it is to get the phone operator’s cooperation. If you just apply the system that I described above and watch the video that’s on this page, you’ll have a very good idea of how it works.
Try it for yourself and tell me what results you got. Post it at the bottom of this page.
Alright, stay cool…
